WHY IS IT CALLED BLACK FRIDAY ?
If you ask most people why the day after Thanksgiving is called "Black Friday," they will explain that the name comes from the fact that retailers use the enormous revenue of that day as an opportunity to "go in the black" and make a profit for the entire year. However, the first documented uses of the term "Black Friday" are a little less rosy.
According to researchers, the name "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in the mid-1960s. The Friday in question falls right between Thanksgiving and the traditional Army-Navy football game played in Philadelphia the following Saturday, so the City of Brotherly Love was always busy on that day. For the retailers, the crowds were great, but for the cops, cab drivers, and everyone else on the city streets, they were a huge burden. They started calling the annual day of commercial chaos "Black Friday" to show how annoying it was.
