What is Blogging? (Concept Explained)
BLOGGING
A person who writes and maintains a blog is called a blogger and the art of writing a blog is called blogging.
The "blogger" (or author) writes periodically about a particular topic of his or her choice (personal experiences, thoughts, hobbies, political aspirations, etc.). The blogger may provide links to other sites that he or she thinks may be of interest to the audience. The updates that the blogger publishes on his blog are called blog posts.
Blogs usually have some features that are useful for both the blogger and the readers.
Types of blogs
There are millions of blogs on the Internet today. There are blogs run by individuals, there are blogs run by companies or organizations on the Internet, and then there are blogs dedicated to factual information such as news, etc. However, they have one thing in common - they usually fall under these types of blogs:
1. personal blog - This is the most common type of blog. Most blogs on the internet belong to this category. After all, blogging started as a way to keep an online diary. A typical blogger may like to write about his interests like fishing, dancing or collecting.
2. news and views - This type of blog contains factual reports about news that are maintained by journalists. News and TV channels like BBC have many professional journalists who publish reports and views about the latest events. Visitors can also add their own opinions.
3. corporate blogs - many companies run blogs to inform their customers and clients about what is going on in the company that might be of interest to customers or clients, such as new products or progress on a project.
Note
{While a blog has no limit on the number of characters/words for a post, a microblog is usually limited to a certain number of characters, e.g. 140 characters for a post (tweet) on Twitter}.
4. micro blogs - This is a new type of blog where you can write very short comments for others to follow. Twitter is the best example of a micro-blog, where one can write only 140 characters, with each entry called a Tweeť. The entries become a running commentary about one's life and interests.
