01
Play with the layout of your room
Layout of the bathroom
Take note of the existing features you love about your bathroom and make a plan to accentuate them, as Nelums did in this room.
"When designing this room, we wanted to highlight the amazing height of the ceilings," Nelums says. "We chose a classic black and white color palette and gave the space character by using geometrically shaped tiles. The unique tiles gave this room a wow factor that is guaranteed to impress any guest."
02
Give your bathroom a contrasting design
Whether you are creating a small bathroom or a large master bath, adding contrast to the space makes a statement and adds interest to the room.
"This bathroom doubles as a pool bath," Nelums says. "Since it's right on the Gulf of Mexico, we wanted to incorporate the water into the design. We used a beautiful blue vanity as the foundation for the space and white tile to create contrast."
03
Try a freestanding bathtub
Looking for a special piece? A freestanding bathtub is the answer. Hibou Design & Co has thought outside the box of white porcelain and incorporated a stunning black and white tub that will help update an older home.
"Considering this home was built in 1902, my main goal was to create a modern departure from the classic tiles," explains the team at Hibou Design & Co. "I was able to install the traditional subway tiles in a modern herringbone pattern and use the classic black and white hexagonal penny tiles to incorporate some of our local French culture. The creative freedom on this project was by far my favorite part, which ultimately led to this really great bathroom!"
04
Try a floating vanity black and white bathroom with plant
A vanity is always recommended, but a floating vanity gives a room a completely different feel. In this bathroom by Julia Alexander Interiors, a bright white floating vanity anchors the space (and makes it easy to clean underneath).
05
Bring pattern to the powder room
A bathroom is something of the jewel of your home - you can decorate it as boldly as you like. In this half bathroom from Gray Hunt Interiors, a gorgeous green wallpaper makes for a modern interpretation of a chevron pattern and adds a lot of personality to the small space.
06
Give your bathroom a touch of elegance
Metallic colors like shimmering silver, gold and brass automatically make a room look luxurious. In this bathroom by GreyHunt Interiors, gold sconces were combined with shimmering gray wallpaper and brass fixtures to create a truly opulent space.
